Chichester & Selsey at the races

       Ascot Utd 0 Chichester & Selsey 4
Chichester and Selsey moved into the Second Round
of the Vitality Women's FA Cup with a highly
professional performance to defeat a resilient Ascot
United at the Racecourse Ground by four goals.
Star of the show was Natasha Wild with a
superb hat-trick but there were fine displays all over
the field for the FAWNL Southern Division team. The
Yellawomen also played their part with a brave and
committed display to attempt to bridge the two tier
gap but the result was never in doubt.
It took just three minutes for Chi to gain the
lead when Wild cut in from the left and curled the
ball beyond Lisa Phillips in the Ascot goal. For a
while it looked ominous for the hosts as the visitors
moved the ball crisply to create openings but Ascot
played their way into the contest. Izzy Woods is challenged by Lauren Clark
Ascot had a chance to equalise when visiting (www.jamesprickett.co.uk).
keeper Issy Foster had a clearance blocked but she
recovered well to turn away the goalbound follow up by Nicole Brown at full stretch and then
tip away the resulting corner at the far post.
Chichester and Selsey extended their lead with another clinical finish by Wild who
fired home a right wing Philippa Holden cross with a first time shot. Only a superb save by
Phillips prevented the hosts from conceding a third on 41 minutes as the visitors pressed
hard whenever Ascot played out from the back.
Chichester and Selsey started the second half as they had finished the first and
extended their lead on 52 minutes when Wild completed her hat trick with a clever lobbed
finish when played in through the middle by Gemma Simmonds.
Ascot showed real application to defend their goal as Chichester and Selsey continued
to play an attractive brand of passing football. With playmaker Megan Fox having been
substituted at the break, it was Simmonds who shone with set pieces and passing whilst
substitute Laura Da Silva forced another fine stop by Phillips.
Simmonds set up the very late fourth goal with a run and low shot which Phillips
saved at full stretch but another sub, Sarah Saunders was on hand to turn the loose ball home.
Both teams had played a good part in an enjoyable match which marked Ascot
United's first ever participation in the First Round of the Women's FA Cup and the players
gave their against higher level opposition who showed them the respect of playing hard right
       to the end.
