Peterborough United produced a fine result on Sunday when they
defeated FAWNL Division One MIdlands leaders Stourbridge 2-1
after extra time in the First Round of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup.
Posh Women midfielder Eden Bailey told us she thought it was
one of their best performances of the season so far and that the team
is going from strength to strength, as well as looking forward to their
upcoming Second Round tie against Sporting Khalsa:
WSS: Well done on a fine victory on Sunday, would you
say that was the team's best performance of the season so
far?
EB: I don’t believe that was the team's best performance, but it
was certainly up there with one of our best, I think we have a lot
more to show as we’re such a talented team.
WSS: The winner came quite early in extra time, were
you hanging on in the last few minutes or did you always
feel comfortable?
EB: I think we were quite comfortable in extra time, we knew we
could win this game and knew at least one opportunity will present
itself before the game, so we just kept grafting until the end and
thankfully got our reward.
WSS: You lost to Stourbridge when you played in them in
the league a couple of months ago, were there things that you learnt from that
game and applied this time around?
EB: We definitely learnt things from the previous game. We’ve trained and learnt from that
game before and we’re getting better each day. We realised the other team's weaknesses and
tried to exploit them.
WSS: That makes it three wins in a row in all competitions, are you confident that
the team is hitting its best form now?
EB: Yes, I think the team is just going to go from strength to strength and our confidence is just
building each game and training session.
WSS: The draw for the Second Round has handed you a trip to Sporting Khalsa,
which will also be your next game. What are your thoughts on that draw and the
match?
EB: We’re going to go into that game like any other game with a positive mindset, confidence
and with resilience, showing them what kind of team we are and that we won’t be pushed over
and we’ll fight from the start to the very end. It’ll be another amazing game to be a part of.
WSS: Is a good FA Cup a high priority for the team and the club, especially with the
increase in prize money now?
EB: I think the cup games are a nice thing for the club and the prize money is just a bonus, all of
us girls love to play and show what we’re about and what we can do as footballers. Anything else
that comes with the cup and the prize money will obviously be nice to receive, but it’s just a bonus
for us. Every game whether it’s a league, cup or friendly game, they’re all important to us.
WSS: Overall, how do you think the season has gone so far for Peterborough and
what do you think is a realistic target for the team?
EB: The season so far is going good for us, we’re just building each day. We’ve had lows and
highs just like every other team. I think we’ve learnt quite quick how to adapt with each challenge
that comes our way and progress forward and to not let obstacles keep us from moving forward.
WSS: Stourbridge have opened up a gap at the top of the table right now but do you
think that any of the chasing teams can put in a serious title challenge?
