It has been another fantastic season from Walton Casuals Ladies FC, which has seen them land a
third successive league title, this time the Premier Division in the Greater London League.
“With unprecedented times we are all experiencing, it has been tough for everyone to stay
positive and keep going,” manager Chris Barker told Women’s Soccer Scene. “WCLFC have grown
so quickly as a club.”
Newly formed in 2018, the club got off to an unbelievable start by winning Division Two
North in the GLWFL and being a cup finalist. Promoted to Division One, Walton continued their
winning run and quest to push up through the female divisions.
“Unbeaten all year, we were again at the top of the table, fourteen points clear with three left
to play, to be crowned Champions for the second year!” added Barker. “Only to be destroyed by the
FA decision to make it a null and void season because of Covid. This was extremely tough as so much
work had be done, but we accepted the decision and moved on.
“This season restarted with us now in the newly formed GLWFL Premiership, but this was
to be a stop start season because of the pandemic still lurking. Coming to a pause, we were top of
the division again and had to stay focused and positive - players keeping themselves fit and given
fitness programmes to use whilst we waited for the green light to re-commence. The decision was
agreed that we could continue which we all welcomed.
“A pinnacle game has to be our double header against Enfield Town in the latter part of the
reassembled season. Double headers are never great and complacency can be a managers worst
enemy. But detailed pre-kick off instructions were given and our players adhered, stayed positive
and had a great mindset on what had to be done and what was requested by their Gaffer. We
capitalised, and two wins on the day saw our work was nearly complete.
“Three league titles in three consecutive seasons is an unbelievable achievement. I cannot
point out any players individually because it has been a completely combined team effort by every
single player involved. To all stay focused on our targets set out, not giving up, and giving it their all
throughout the year week in week out.
“Our club captain is Nikki Saunders, who is also our top goalscorer for the season. The future
is bright at Walton Casuals Ladies FC - having our state of the art home and training facility \t the
Xcel Hub and our fantastic environment. we are a club moving and progressing in the forward
direction.
“Our success is down to hard work and commitments from our coaching staff/ players and
all involved. Thank you everyone for your support and publicity. Our WCLFC story has just begun.”
