SWPL 1 action returned in midweek and league leaders Rangers stay two points clear at the
top after beating Motherwell 5-0. Brianna Westrup gave them the lead midway through the
first half and they went on to add further goals through Rachel McLauchlan, Zoe Ness, Kayla
McCoy and Lizzie Arnot.
Second placed Glasgow City also scored five times without reply away to Aberdeen.
All five goals came during the first half, Vital Kats netting twice along with Aoife Colvill, Niamh
Farrelly and Agata Filipa.
Celtic are also two points off the pace following their 3-0 success at Hearts. Once
again, all of the goals came early in the match, all three being scored inside the opening half
hour. Charlie Wellings opened the soring for the Hoops, who went on to add the other goals
through Kathleen McGovern and Jacynta Galabadaarachchi.
Hibernian continued their improving form by winning 1-0 away to Hamilton
Academical. Amy Gallacher handed Hibs their fifth league win of the season when she scored
the only goal of the game on the half hour.
Partick Thistle meanwhile moved into their highest position of the season to date,
thanks to a goalless draw against Spartans. The result takes Thistle into fifth position and
although Spartans currently lie third from bottom following their fourth draw, they are only
one point behind Partick.
On Sunday, the quarter finals of the SWPL League Cup took place and the tie which
took the most attention, the Old Firm derby, ended in a 1-0 away victory for Celtic over
Rangers.
A tightly contested Cup tie was settled three minutes ahead of the hour mark when
Charlie Wellings scored the game’s solitary goal.
Cup holders Hibernian are also through to the last four, thanks to a 2-0 win away to
Aberdeen. Rachael Boyle gagve Hibs a seventeenth minute lead and she sealed the win with
her second goal, just after the half hour.
Glasgow City ended the hopes of Partick Thistle by running our 5-0 winners in their tie.
