After last week’s break for the FAW Women’s Cup, the league was back in action and once again
the Genero Adran Premier delivered, with it still all to play for in the race for the Championship
spaces in Phase 2.
Cardiff City Women are keeping hold of top spot for another week following a 1-0 win
over Aberystwyth Town at Leckwith. In a tight game, with Aberystwyth’s defence needing to
be strong, Rhianne Oakley’s 23rd minute goal was enough to maintain the Bluebirds’ 100%
record.
Cardiff Met Women and Swansea City remain hot on their heels, just three points
behind. Met hosted Barry Town Utd and Erin Murray scored twice in two minutes to give the
Archers the advantage. Barry’s Mackenzie Olden fired a return shot ten minutes later to become
the league’s top scorer on five after five games, but Evie Griffiths added a third for Met on the
51st minute to seal the points and a 3-1 victory, to keep second spot, a goal ahead of the Swans.
Swansea made the trip north to The New Saints and went into the lead after just five
minutes with Nia Rees getting her first league goal this season after a strong showing in the Cup
last weekend. Emma Beynon added a second, before TNS were offered a way back into the game
when Shaunna Jenkins’ tackle in the box was ruled illegal and Beth Lewis converted the
resulting penalty. Katy Hosford added a third for Swansea just before full time to make sure the
visitors took the three points.
Pontypridd Utd welcomed Abergavenny Women to USW with the visitors looking
for their first points of the season and hoping to build on their Cup form from last week. Jasmine
Turner got her first Ponty goals, scoring after eight minutes and adding a second two minutes
before the break, before turning provider in the second half for Olivia Francis. Both teams had
chances, with Abergavenny hitting the bar
