He’s dead now but he left the property to the Irish people and

               his son and family still spend several weeks each summer living

               in the upper floors of the castle.  One of the women who works

               there says it was really more like camping out as the upper

               floors have very few amenities.


               They plan to build a modular museum on the grounds to house

               the rest of the collection which resides in various bank vaults at

               the present time.  We purchase tickets for £1.60 and start off

               toward the castle which was more like a watch tower.


               Craggaunown Castle was built around 1550 and we check out

               the art and weavings displayed inside before walking on to the

               Crannog.  There are several recreations of lake dwellings like

               those used during the Iron Age.


               We are

               surprised

               at how

               much they

               resemble

               African or

               South

               Pacific
               huts.  We

               have fun

               pretending

               to be Iron

               Age

               housewives (It was a change from pretending to be 20
