As we consider the approaching Harvest time here is some
information that you may find of interest

       Lammastide

The season of Lammastide is a period that commemorates the
                                                             st
harvest and is usually celebrated around August 1 . It's also
known as Lammas Day or Lughnasadh, the name deriving from
the Anglo-Saxon word hlaf-mas, which means "loafmass".

Lammastide is the first harvest festival of the year and marks the
end of the hay harvest and the beginning of grain.

In the past on this day in Britain, loaves of bread were baked from
the first wheat crop and brought to church to be used as
Communion bread. It was celebrated as a day of thanksgiving.

The practice died out with the Reformation, and was later
       redeveloped into the harvest festival.

       FIRST AND LAST FRUITS
       God of the first fruits,
let your rain dance on us,
       your sun shine on us
and your love and justice grow in us,
       until we bring
       our last fruits
       to your harvest.
       Amen
