pedal steel, invoke a deep spiritual atmosphere, confirmed by warming
gospel vocals. On ‘Little Bighorn’, (band version) the lilting steel guitar,
swaying percussion and gentle vocals sets your mind to thinking. In
contrast, ‘Little Bighorn’, (acoustic version) is a Delta slide blues lament on
the theme of the more you learn, the less, you seem to understand or
comprehend.
‘Church Bells (Little Zion)’, is an electrifying, emotional horn filled tramping
gospel, which entices you to sing along with the majestic choir. ‘Watermelon
Girl’ however, is a wonderfully lilting, slide driven Caribbean musical recipe
for a cool, cool drink.
‘Road Food and Cheap Motels’, a jolly, tramping, bouncing tale of life on the
road, is contrasted with ‘You Make Me Want To’, a delicate and uplifting tale
of what might be—if you dare.
In ‘Better Worser Too’, slow burning guitar and horns lead this cynical view
of marriage between two cynical evil people, whilst ‘Australia’, is a joyful,
bouncing acappella and handclapping tale of what to expect in the outback.
Finally, ‘Fresh’, is a lovely Stax influenced, organ and horns R&B groover.
Highly Recommended!
