BiTS:
As a member of the IBBA, I know I'm the same as many of my colleagues. We get numbers of albums
that are very very poorly presented, very often without any real indication of who the band is that's
playing and it's very annoying.
CF:
Yes, well that's one of the many. I think
about 200 albums have been released and
that's one of the things on the list. In fact,
on my list of things to do, one of the things
is to make sure it's IBBA compatible,
[chuckling] because people don’t, and I find
people send me albums and they don't have
any idea. It's more down to them not
knowing what to do than intentionally
getting it wrong.
BiTS:
Yes, that's right. I agree with that, entirely.
CF:
It's just really lack of experience. Lots of bands are putting out albums with no experience of the
next stage on and I find that they don't realise that they need to come to people like me, maybe six
months before the album goes out as well and they want to put it out last week. They finish in the
studio and it's straight up online and that isn't a brilliant way of doing it because it doesn't give
them time to actually get their cards straight with regard to reviews and getting people interested
in it. We do a series of single releases and manage very carefully as well, so we really can bring
attention to the album and show it off in the best possible light.
BiTS:
If somebody wants to get in touch with you to get your assistance, how do they do that?
CF:
They go on the website, which is newoutlaw.co.uk. They can sign up for my virtual gig guide there
too.
BiTS:
Why did you decide to change the name to New Outlaw? Wouldn't the old one have done?
CF:
Well, it was called Outlaw PR before and I thought it was quite restrictive because it's not just PR
that I'm doing now because when someone comes to me for album release management, I do
everything including designing them a range of t-shirts for their website, so it's far more than PR
that I'm doing. I thought it's revamped. It's a new version of Outlaw, so I called it New Outlaw and
what I found interesting is that since I've changed the name, I've had a great deal of interest from
the country music artists.
BiTS:
Really?
