THE BiTS INTERVIEw: Liz mandeville

Liz Mandeville is an American vocalist, songwriter, and

Chicago blues musician known for her versatile voice, high-

voltage performances, insightful songs, and traditional blues

guitar playing. She has written and produced hundreds of

original songs, including the songs on her albums. She has

received critical acclaim and has toured internationally. She

owns the record label Blue Kitty Music.

Ian McKenzie spoke to at her home in Chicago.

LM: Hello.

BiTS: Is that Liz?

LM: Hey, Ian, how are you?

BiTS: I'm doing very well, and how are you?

LM: Splendid. Couldn't be better.

BiTS: That's wonderful. You sound from your emails
as though you’re rushed off your feet, though.

LM: Oh, God, I am, I am. Well, you know, no time to waste.

BiTS: [Laughs] That sounds like something from Alice
in Wonderland, actually.

LM: Is it? [Laughs] I always liked her.

Tell me some-

thing, I gather
there was a lot of music
in your house when you

were a kid. Your dad
played the guitar and was a folk
singer, I believe. How did that attract
you to music yourself?

LM: Oh, my dad was a fine artist. He was a
painter, and we always had music going in our
