folk/blues/jazz singer-songwriter, perspective. It's rootsy but he was just really playing for the
song, which was lovely.
BiTS: Some time ago but back last August, I had a message from a guy called Tom Walker. I can
guess you probably know where this is going to, and he asked me if I could suggest to him a
female singer/guitarist in the blues field in the UK, who might participate with him. And I gather
that you've done it. He's told me that you've done it.
DW: Yes. So there's two of his tracks that I've been kind of contributing to. I don't know how
much I'm allowed to say, actually, because I was surprised that you knew. I didn't know it was
you that recommended me. Thank you [laughing].
BiTS: [Laughing] My pleasure.
DW: Because I'd said to him, whilst we were doing the first one, you know, can I put anything
on social media about it? And he actually said, no, not yet. So I don't know when he's going to tell
everyone or whether we're telling them first, but yes, it's been brilliant. He's an amazing artist.
I really like his kind of Tom Waits-esq kind of
vocals. Lovely metaphorical lyric writing, and
Dani and Will
I just felt really inspired by what he was doing,
and yes, super excited just to collaborate. I
love collaborating. So recently I've been doing
the Tom Walker stuff and in two weeks’ time,
I'm heading off to Oxford to collaborate with
Krissy Matthews on his album as well, which
is going to feature lots of different artists. Yes,
a lot of fun.
BiTS: Dani, where are you living now?
DW: I'm in Brighton or just outside. I'm in
Portslade, actually, just outside of Brighton.
BiTS: Oh, you're still in Brighton, are you? I
thought you'd moved from Brighton. There,
must be a studio near you somewhere. Is that where you go to?
DW: Yes, Brighton Road studios is my favourite, which is again just outside of Brighton, nearer
Hassocks really, but I love that studio because the engineer, Ali Gavan, you put the headphones
on and I sing and I'm like, oh, sounds like Whitney Houston in my headphones. I don't sound like
Whitney Houston, but the sound that he gets me, just makes me really want to sing. It's like, super
inspiring and it's not like that in any other studio, to be honest, I've ever been in. There's
something really special about Ali's headphone mix and the sound he gets and the reverb in the
microphones he uses, that I put them on and I feel I can sing my best, which is really lovely and
I've used studios all over the world, but that studio for me is the one.
BiTS: What are your long-term plans? Are you going to be doing an album? I mean, I know you
mentioned putting some of these things together, but are you planning one?
DW: Not yet, not yet. I mean, I've had, trying to think how many singles I've had from VizzTone
so far, probably about eight or nine. It's been years now just doing the digital singles. The albums
cost a lot to make and, I do sell them, especially when I’m touring lots, which is why I'm waiting
until I'm properly back on the road and willing to leave my kids for like a month at a time, which
I'm not yet because the baby's still a baby, you know, breastfeeding little boy who I can't leave.
