there was also a lyric on his phone as well which suited that song. The other song was

a solo that Matt had done actually in the long term. We did collaborations with various
people, and he played a solo for somebody, and we had that and so I wrote a new song
around that. So altogether that makes the nine tracks that are on the album.

BiTS: I spent a very fascinating hour recently this morning listening to the album. I
think it's absolutely terrific. You've really done a great job in mixing it and balancing
                                                                                               it and all the rest

                                                                                               of it. Absolutely

                                                                                               PL: Thank you.

                                                                                               Yeah, it became a

                                                                                               Out of something

                                                                                               I was not want-

                                                                                               felt I could, it
                                                                                               turned into a
                                                                                               labour of love,

                                                                                               and we had help
                                                                                               from Alex Voy-
sey, who plays guitar in the new band that I'm starting, and from Ash Wilson, and

from Chloe Josephine coming in to fill it out with the extra guitar parts and including
some amazing backing vocals. So it turned it into something far better than I could
have dreamt, really. The one thing Matt said about the next album that we would do,

is that he wanted it to sound big. That was always in our minds when we were working
on this stuff to just try and make it sound really big and cinematic.

BiTS: Tell me something. It's clearly an artistic as well as mechanical process to

develop things from lyrics or from snatches of music which are lying around. How
did you approach it? Was it a burning the midnight oil job, or did you have ideas that

came to you suddenly about something? Or how did it actually work?

PL: Well, there were songs that we didn't have anything. There were two of the songs
where we had no vocal from Matt either, and so I had some multi tracked live shows

that we'd done, and I took his vocal from those and made them click in. Songs like
‘Say The Word’ and ‘Sick Of It All’, those are the two that he had demoed on his
computer, and he’d sort of done guide parts of a drum machine and bass. There was
no keyboards on them. So we had an idea of what his intention was with those two

songs and so we tried to follow what he seemed to have in mind on that, just bring
them to life, really. In the studio we had Matt’s guitar and his vocal and we played live

to that. So all the songs really have a live part to them that we always played live in
the studio initially, the drums, bass guitar and keyboards, and then added or changed
