A Journey of Scholrarhip, Elegance and Grace
In Memoriam
CHRISTINE DANCY HORNE
“Those who touch our lives stay in our hearts forever.”
With profound sadness, yet with gratitude for a life well-lived, we
honor the memory of Soror Christine Dancy Horne, who entered the Omega Omega Chapter on
July 24, 2024. Her passing deeply touched the members of the Rocky Mount Alumnae Chapter, as
well as sorors throughout the surrounding areas and the South Atlantic Region.
A woman of unwavering faith, deep compassion, and a servant’s heart, Soror Horne dedicated her
life to uplifting others. She cherished her family, the Word of God, and the joy of teaching children.
Born and raised in Rocky Mount, NC, she graduated from Booker T. Washington High School
prior to earning her degree in Elementary Education from Winston-Salem State University in 1962.
Her 34-year career in education left a lasting imprint on generations of students, but her service
to others did not end with retirement. She pursued a second career as a licensed funeral director,
continuing her commitment to supporting families in their time of need.
Soror Horne was initiated into Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated through the Rocky Mount
Alumnae Chapter on December 21, 1988. As a Diamond Life Member, she exemplified unwavering
dedication, serving on numerous committees and holding leadership roles, including Chair of Risk
Management, Jabberwock, and Delta GEMS. Among her many accolades, she was honored with
the 2017 South Atlantic Region Delta Dear Award and the RMAC Chapter’s Crimson and Cream
Award. Her greatest joy was mentoring young women. Under her leadership, Delta GEMS earned
third place in the Youth Initiative Category at the Regional Conference.
Beyond Delta, Soror Horne was a pillar of her community. She was a passionate advocate for
civic engagement, ensuring that seniors and neighbors remained informed about local and national
elections and key current events. A natural organizer, she worked tirelessly to empower those
around her.
She guided and inspired many young women, including her own daughter, Miss Jabberwock 1987,
and her niece, Miss Jabberwock 1985. Her impact on the lives of countless young girls will be
remembered forever.
Though she is no longer with us, may her legacy of love
live on in the hearts of those she touched.
