GERTIE RODGERS LEWIS

The Rocky Mount Alumnae Chapter honors the life of Soror Gertie
Rodgers Lewis, who entered the Omega Omega Chapter on
Saturday, February 17, 2024.

Soror Lewis was initiated in the Fall of 1960 into the Delta Xi Chapter on the campus of
Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, North Carolina. For 64 years, she embodied the ideals
of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., dedicating her life to service, sisterhood, and scholarship. She
was a Golden Life Member and a Delta Dear, exemplifying a lifelong commitment to strengthening
communities and uplifting mankind.

A cherished member of both the Washington, D.C. Alumnae Chapter and the Rocky Mount
Alumnae Chapter, Soror Gertie was an active and dedicated participant in chapter programs and
initiatives. She fervently supported youth initiatives, notably Delta Academy and Delta GEMS,
mentoring and inspiring young minds to reach their fullest potential. As a dedicated member of
the Fundraising and Endowed Scholarship Committees, she tirelessly worked to ensure that op-
portunities for education and advancement were made available to those in need. She extended her
generosity and compassion beyond the Sorority, contributing to programs such as the Relay for
Life Cancer Drives in Edgecombe and Nash counties and participating in Heart Walks and St. Jude
Walks—demonstrating her unwavering commitment to the well-being of others.

Soror Lewis was known for her kindness, warmth, and unwavering support. She was friendly,
caring, and deeply invested in the well-being of those around her. Her passion for service and love
for Delta were evident in all that she did. Though our connection with Soror Gertie is now broken,
her legacy and impact will forever remain in our hearts.

Soror Gertie Rodgers Lewis lived fully and laughed often. She embraced the beauty of life, sought
the best in others, and always gave the best of herself. Her life was an inspiration, and her memory
shall remain a benediction to all who knew her.
