ROCKY MOUNT ALUMNAE CHAPTER

                      Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.



                                                      1947-2025


       The Rocky Mount Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was charted on April 4, 1947 by Eastern
       Regional Director, Soror Muriel Johnson. The original 21 chapter charter members was established as Gamma Kappa
       Sigma because all chapters carried Greek names at that time.

       Since its inception, the Chapter has been dedicated to community service and remains committed to making a lasting impact
       on the world. It holds a life membership in the NAACP and has been honored with numerous awards for its public service
       efforts. Recognitions include the Community Organization Award for Outstanding Achievement in Human Relations,
       commendations for volunteer contributions to the Red Cross and the Mental Health Association, participation in the Cancer
       II Prevention Survey, the State of North Carolina Special Olympic Award for Leadership and Service, and the 2003 NC
       Governor’s World AIDS Day Volunteer Appreciation Award for Distinguished Community Service in the fight against HIV/
       AIDS.
       Locally, the Rocky Mount Alumnae Chapter’s involvement includes: Sickle Cell Anemia, Operation Santa Claus, Boys &
       Girls Club, Communities in Schools, Martin Luther King Oratorical Contest, Jabberwock (scholarships awarded total
       approximately ($985,000), Visions, Inc. (Senior Citizens’ Day Care), United Negro College Fund, Goffney Book Awards,
       Delta Day at the State Capitol, Delta Days in the Nation’s Capital, Friends of Braswell Library, Mental Health (Forgotten
       Patient), My Sister’s House, Harambee Festival, Golf Tournament, Habitat for Humanity International, Twin County
       Education-al Foundation, Read-In for Tots, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, Martin Luther King Unity Breakfast, Delta
       Academy, Delta GEMS, EMBODI, Financial Fortitude, North Carolina Special Olympics, United Community Ministries
       Shelter, Relay for Life, American Heart Walk, Blood Drive, Salvation Army Bell Ringing, Scholarship Program, World AIDS
       Day, and VITA Workshops, Political Forums, Domestic Violence Events and the endowment of a scholarship at Edgecombe
       Community College, reinforcing its commitment to education, advocacy, and community enrichment.
       The Violet Center for Life Development, Incorporated, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, was founded on June 19, 2001, to
       support the Chapter in advancing its charitable and educational initiatives. In 2011, it was renamed the Delta Center for Life
       Development (DCLD) to strengthen its role as the Chapter’s philanthropic arm. At the August 2015 National Convention, the
       Sorority mandated that chapters operate separately from their auxiliary charitable entities. Now functioning as an
       independent organization governed by its Board of Directors, DCLD serves organizations within the
       Rocky Mount/Edgecombe/Nash community, partnering with the Rocky Mount Alumnae Chapter only upon request.
