❖ A brief overview of the project
❖ Project Title – Development of end to end strategy for
reduction of slow moving inventory
MCC has 27 stores Pan India. At any given time there are
about 7000 SKUs available for sale. Out of these there are
about 200-300 SKUs which are slow moving and are hence
stuck at the stores. This is turn reduces inventory turnover,
blocks working capital, increases the inventory holding costs
while damaging the customer perception about MCC.
My project was to identify this slow moving inventory at
each store and suggest targeted measures to reduce this
slow moving inventory by 50% over a 6 month period. I
collaborated with Procurement, supply chain, operations,
PINANK RATANGHAYRA
finance and even marketing to understand the root cause of
Metro Cash & Carry the problem and formulate the most effective plan of
action.
__________________________________________ I spent about a week in understanding the cash and carry
GENERAL INFORMATION business and its challenges, the next 40 days in developing a
store level plan across product categories and final 8-10
Batch: PGDIE 48 days in doing a pilot run of measures I had suggested
BTech: NIT, Surat ❖ How is a normal day at the Internship?
A typical day starts at about 10 am with meeting my mentor
Stream: Mechanical and discussing what needs to be done on that particular day.
He used to introduce me to someone I needed to coordinate
Work Ex: Fresher
with. This was followed by some mails and data crunching
crunching on my desk. Post lunch I used to meet people from different teams and discuss the problems
along with actions needed to be taken. I would also connect with people outside HO over call or Skype.
After this, I would meet my mentor again for discussing the progress made and finalising some agenda for
next day. The final hour in the evening was spent with co interns in what we named as ‘Interns Adda’
discussing their projects and playing Table Tennis
❖ What are the challenges faced during Internship?
I would say the most challenging thing was understanding the scope of the project as it involved me
collaborating with everyone across departments and develop an action plan keeping all the constraints in
mind
