PPO Diaries
(ii) Good listening – Everyone likes good listeners, and trust me you’ll have some great and insightful
conversations due to this trait
(iii) Tech savviness – I was curious enough to try my hands-on ML, Python, API and other tools about which
I had zero idea before my internship. I managed to deliver results which impressed my superiors, but what
made them even more happy was my approach. They liked my use of cutting-edge tech into the projects.
What did I do wrong: Again, I’m not very sure what exactly did I do wrong, but I do know where I could
have done more. I was so involved in my projects that I missed out on networking with some of my peers
and getting to know their work. I know this could have helped me a lot during my time there, and I would
try to interact more with them once I join my firm.
❖ what are the things to keep in mind in the internship?
You’ll find a lot of people who preach how important it is to find a godfather during your tenure at your
respective firms, please don’t pay heed to that. What will matter at the end is the quality of work which
you deliver and your connections with your peers. Spend some time with each person in your department
to get a holistic idea on how things work around, and make sure you give timely updates of your work to
your superiors. Never shy away from asking for help – because it will always be given to those who ask for
it. The kind of image you build for yourself at your firm, will be the one which you’ll have to carry once you
join. So be comfortable with your work, and try to go to the extra mile while delivering your projects –
because that is something you should be known for!
❖ What pre-internship preparation do you suggest for juniors?
Talk to seniors who have interned already or are working in the companies which you’d be joining to get
an idea on what exactly is going on in the organisation.
Apart from that, develop some skills in MS Excel and get an idea on technologies used in the market for
your project domain. That should suffice.
