ASHAD EKADASHI CELEBRATION
A MARCH TOWARDS DIVINITY
A society & its practices get its meaning by the way of its culture, we get to understand and
interpret people’s way of life. It is with this aim that Vivek Vidyalaya organizes and celebrates
festivals which are of great cultural and religious significance.
On 12th July, 2019 the school celebrated the festival of Aashad with great vigor and
enthusiasm. According to the Hindu religion, the 11 th day of Ashad has great significance and is
known as Maha Ekadashi or Ashadi Ekadashi. The annual Pandharpur yatra to the famous
Vithoba temple at Pandharpur in Maharashtra culminates on this day.
The involvement of teachers and students added a spark to the occasion. Through his
speech, Sir Anandrao Durgawale enlightened the students about the essence of this day, He chose
to recite a soulful Abhanga. Here are a few lines:
“कानडा राजा पंढरीचा
वेदांनाही नाही कळला
अत पार याचा
ः
ं
िनराकार तो िनगुण ईर

कसा प्रकटला असा िवटेवर
उभय ठे िवल हात किटवर
े
पुतळा चताचा …”
ै
Which loosely translates to
Even the Vedas couldn’t gauge the bounds of the Kanada, king of Pandhari.
Nirvana is the Nirguna God who shines brightly, holding your hands together….
Mukta Desai of grade 8 also rendered a speech in Marathi pointing out the crucial values of
this festival. She too sang a devotional song in praise of Lord Vitthal on this occasion.
The auspicious function set the school in a spiritual mood helping the young minds
march towards divinity.
