BEYOND BASICS

I fought almost exclusively from a Left Lead neutral side stance
position. The side position provided great mobility in all directions
as well as making me a smaller target. Much like a boxer, the lead
side was used for quick jab-like
strikes or kicks while the rear side
           was the power side.

           Opponents would switch sides
hoping I would switch as well. What
they quickly realized was that I
wasn’t going to switch and was
           perfectly was comfortable
           regardless of their lead side.
           Fighters usually had favorite
weapons on each side which in itself
was a “tell”. They all had a preferred
Lead Side. The switch to their non-preferred side was usually also
to a weaker position. So, their switch put them I a weaker position
while I maintained my “strong” side.

A fighting position should emulate the
                              Sprinter’s in the block position!

Ever watch a sprinter exploding out of the blocks? In the blocks,
they’re on the balls of their feet, both feet are pointed forward,
and the rear knee is directly below the hip! This is the optimal
position to explode out of the blocks and accelerate quickly.
A fighting position should emulate the Sprinter’s in the block
position! Weight on the balls of the feet, both feet pointed
