Inmate Transportation
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, Intake Officers/Transport Officers continued using a video
court system that was implemented in 2020. The system allows for the jail to provide video court
proceedings (Federal & County), attorney/client video visitation, mental health evaluations,
outpatient/inpatient drug addiction Screenings, Maine Pre-Trial Interviews, veteran service
interviews, all while maintaining quarantine and social distancing.

Food Services
There were 354,703 meals served to inmates
and staff in 2021 by the Cumberland County
Jail Food Services Department. This averages
972 meals per day.
The average cost per meal for 2021 was
approximately $1.14, a decrease of $0.16
compared to the prior year. A new food vendor
was used in 2020 to help control increasing
food costs. On average there are 81 special
diet meals (including medically ordered,
religious beliefs, and personal choice diet)
prepared at any given time.
Chaplain Services
Reverend Jeffrey McIlwain provides spiritual support to all denominations
and is available for both inmates and staff. He is a critical liaison between
the Sheriff’s Office and the community, providing relevant insight on topics
of concern in our communities.
There were no religious volunteers allowed in the jail in 2021 due to
COVID-19. Volunteeer Chaplains Macauley Lord and Rev. Dannita Lofton
helped coordinate volunteers to provide spiritual literature for inmates
during the year. 5210
