Sri. B. T. Parthasarathy was one of the pillars of our Vokkaliga community. He was
one of the founding fathers of the Vokkaligara Sangha’s educational institutions such
as the Visveswarapura (V.V. Puram) College of Arts, Science, and Commerce, the
Visveswarapura (V.V. Puram) College of Law; the Bangalore Institute of Technology (BIT),
and the Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS). An eminent lawyer of the
Karnataka High Court, he became the 16th Advocate General (Attorney General) of the
state of Karnataka in Sri. Dharam Singh’s government in 2004. He served the Karnataka
government in an exemplary manner in this capacity.
Mr. Parthasarathy was the eldest of ten children born to Smt. Venkamma and Sri.
Bangalore Thimmarayappa (B.A.,) a scrupulously honest Forest Officer, who had passed
his qualifying forestry exams in Dehradun. Smt. Venkamma had studied up to Lower
Secondary (LS) which was rare in the 1920s. Mr. Parthasarathy’s parents, very educated
Vokka ligas for their times greatly stressed the importance of education, hard work and

honesty upon their children. Mr. Parthasarathy received his law degree from Pune Law
College at the young age of 20. He soon started independent practice at his 630, Avenue
Road, Bangalore office, and from then, there was no holding him back. He also taught
law at the University Law College from 1960-1966.
In 1955, he married Kum. Sumithra, the accomplished daughter of Sri. Puttaswamiah
of the Chowbini family in Mysore. They had 2 daughters- Vani and Lakshmi. Sri.
Parthasarathy was a brilliant orator and had a long and successful legal career spanning
many decades. He was the legal advisor to Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and REMCO.
He was elected President of the Karnataka State
Bar Council in 1974.
A visionary who firmly believed in education
as the great equalizer between the rich and the
poor, Mr. Parthasarathy was passionate about
providing access to higher education to our young
Vokkaliga men and women from the villages, so
they could enroll in professional degree programs
and succeed. Along with Sri. Marudeve Gowda,
