PUBLIC POLICY COMMITTEE UPDATE

The Public Policy Committee, including the Bill Screening Committee, have been
actively working to advocate for legislation benefiting working women and to begin
preliminary planning for the Annual Public Policy Conference to be held February 23-24,
        2024.

One of the Committee goals is to have a public policy chair from each district
and each club. That goal has almost been met and hopefully the few remaining clubs
will fill that vacancy soon. Please let the Public Policy chair know the name of your
representative so that they can be added to our mailing group.

The Bill Screening committee has welcomed a new member, Shaaron Casey from
Burbank BPW. Along with chair Sally McMahon and returning members Elaine Aftergut
and Elaine Sierra, they are working to provide updates on current legislation. Please
see Sally’s report for more information about bills that CFBPW is supporting.

Last year CFBPW joined the California Work & Family Coalition and we have be-
come active members of this partnership. We have signed on to letters of support for
the four bills that the Coalition was actively working on and members of our Public
Policy Committee participated in the Coalition’s Advocacy Week, meeting with staff of
        Assembly Members and State Senators.

The Public Policy and Bill Screening Committee Chairs participate in the monthly
meetings of the NFBPWC Advocacy Committee. They also attend meetings of the Peri-
        od Poverty Committee.

Our committee is asking you to begin preparing for our Annual Conference, as
this is the year when we review our Public Policy Statement for changes/additions and
when we adopt focus issues for the next two years. Please plan time for discussions
on these at your club and district meetings. Also, we are asking for nominations for
our Legislator of the Year award that will be given at the Conference.

         Rosemary Enzer
         CFBPW Public Policy Chair
