The thought broadened his smile. Reaching office, he was about to call Tom when Michelle Fay,

one of his other Section Managers, walked in.

“Morning Dan. I am glad you are in early. We have a crisis!”

“Morning Michelle. What happened?” Bitterness creeping into his tone as he was about to protest

on this unplanned intrusion. But his new learning calmed him down as quickly. He paused, smiled and

said, “Michelle before you blow me away, let us walk to the pantry and get a coffee. It must be serious

as I have never seen you in the office this early,” he added.

Michelle was taken aback at Dan’s response for two reasons. First, she could not recall Dan using

small talk before. He would typically jump straight to the point almost invariably; no beating around

the bush for our Dan! Second reason was even more surprising. It seemed to Michelle that Dan was

not aware of the issue.

‘Why? I sent him an email last night!’

Dan had the reputation of being one of the most arduous email users in the company who took

great pride in clearing his inbox, almost live!

‘What has happened today? Something is not right here!’ Thought Michelle.

“It seems you did not get a chance to see my email on this issue. I was up till late night expecting

your response.” Michelle said, trying to catch up with Dan as they walked towards the pantry.

Dan was equally surprised; the thought of clearing his emails, a routine every weekend, did not

even cross his mind over this unusual weekend. He was just too busy discovering and experiencing

his new learnings!
