Design Hypothesis:

Fast Fashion has resulted in mas produc on/ consump on of shoes with worldshoeliquida-

tor.com sta ng through research that average women own ap rox. 27 pairs of shoes and men

own ap rox. 12. These shoes are among the top 20 household items that end up in land l s

with rub er shoe soles taking 50-80 years to decompose. Solving these problems should start

with children of a young age. If they got into the habit of wearing the same pairs of shoes

when young, as they grow old they may be les inclined to own more than what is neces ary,

therefor reducing produc on and waste and slowing down the fast fashion frenzy. A sustain-

able, long-las ng, high-quality shoe design may encourage such habits. This product would be

designed with orthopaedic research and sustainability as a main focus.

Design Ap roach:

In response to the hypothesis we have designed a shoe for children that has an expandable

sole that expands 2 shoe sizes with an interchangeable up er shoe made of recycled/ sustain-

able materials. The ful life cycle of the shoe has be n considered with means of ap ropriate

disposal taken into considera on.
