3.1 Telling the Story
Designers must be proficient at telling stories. Products should never be
designed in isolation and without context. A story connects the user, the
task and the situation. Communicating the context of a project offers sketching styles
clarity and understanding to the problem area, linking stakeholders and
the product environment.
Sketching Style
There are many styles of sketching used by designers and learners are
encouraged to explore styles in order to develop a personal style.
Examine the styles of the masters. Look to understand what defines their
style and begin to emulate.

When telling a story through sketching it is important to communicate
ideas in a visual way. It should contain the salient points and relevant
images. This style of sheet is generally used for wall mounted
assessments and should have impact. During a presentation if there is a
need to talk or use hands to explain something, there is probably an
image missing.
3.2 Exploration Through Iteration
Designers pride themselves on exploring all avenues when working
through a problem. This form of sketching is about capturing thought
