CHAPTER 5                                           BUILDING THE USER INTERFACE (UI) CORE SYSTEM



















                         The parking system will focus on three main interactions that a user can choose from:


                         • Interacting as a driver

                         • Interacting as a passenger


                         • Direct drive to SETU which triggers the use of the limitation system of tokens (student) and time (staff)


                         Synthesising this into an interface aims to:



                         •  Interact using carpooling methods and get rewarded by a reserved parking spot or area

                         •  If direct drive is chosen by students, they get a free parking space depending on the number of tokens they possess. A single token


                             means a parking space. These are automatically generated on a weekly basis by the application depending on the

                             home distance location to SETU which can be seen in idea 3 user flow at the ideation stage

                         •  If direct drive is chosen by staff, the parking timer on the staff interface starts to decrease. Since staff have different priorities compared to

                             students, they will be given every week the full working lecture hours and 2-3 hours free every day including the one hour break time. Time will

                             accumulate and returns back to zero at the beginning of a new semester.



                           Such type of systems were chosen to tackle key themes like ‘insecurity’, ‘inefficiency’, ‘space utilisation’, ‘sustainable travel’

                           and ‘users’ mindset’.








                                                                           Doing further benchmarking showed that in the

                              ASSUMPTION                                   ‘northern commute’ there are designated spaces
                                                                           for carpooling which in SETU do not exist. Such
                                                                           system assumption is integrated in the interface.
