issue. However, as with any solution, there are limitations on what associated with sense of purpose and testing the solution if it
they can offer. Some could be patronising older adults in ways can truly address the issue. Before doing so I needed to
that could possibly make the latter feel more helpless. Others formulate the problem statement.
could be too exclusive secluding themselves from engaging with
the younger members of the society.
Having a positive Sense of purpose is correlated to lower levels of
loneliness and according to Buettner (2023), happier centenarians
are well connected to their neighbourhood.
Though there are some existing solutions that touch into creating
purpose for older adults, some do not seem to be inclusive and EXPLORE
accessible to a wider audience of older people while others are
not specifically tailored to older adults’ needs. The way they
currently work and how it is being communicated do not seem to
make purpose central and a direct solution in addressing
loneliness/social isolation. At best, they can just be inferred.
Overall, the literature review point at the feasibility of sense of
purpose as another approach that can help alleviate
loneliness/social isolation. However, a literature gap exist in
exploring sense of purpose as a solution to address
loneliness/social isolation in older adults.
