Material Surface Finish Template - (Carbon Fiber)
Description:
Carbon Fiber is a very strong material that is also
very lightweight. Carbon fiber is five-times stronger than steel
and twice as stiff. Though carbon fiber is stronger
and stiffer than steel, it is lighter than steel;
making it the ideal manufacturing material for many parts
Rationale:
I chose carbon fiber because it is a complex material that has a very
interesting appearance. I wanted to try to recreate
this material to the best of my ability.
Composite Applications + Samples: Composite
(Original) Carbon Fiber is used for a variety of products including Formula 1 and (Replicated)
NASCAR vehicles, the aerospace industry, sporting goods,
the military and also in the medical industry.
Attributes:
Carbon Fibre has good physical strength, specific toughness, it is light weight,
It has good vibration damping, strength, and toughness.
Tensile Strenght: 4,000 (MPa)
Yield Strenght: 2,500 (MPa)
Replication Process:
Spray filler primer Once sanded, Cut shelf liner Tape down and Spray with a final
onto acrylic sheet. spray with larger than the spray with silver. layer of glossy
Sand and repeat matte black acrylic sheet Repeat process x2 clear lacquer
