Material Surface Finish Template - (Silicone Rubber)
Description:
Silicone rubber is an elastomer composed of silicone
containing silicon together with carbon, hydrogen, and
oxygen. Silicone rubbers are often one- or two-part polymers,
and may contain fillers to improve properties or reduce cost.
Rationale:
I chose silicone rubber because it is another material that is very
commonly used in industry. It is another material that is quite versatile.
Applications + Samples:
Due to these properties and its ease of manufacturing and
shaping, silicone rubber can be found in a wide variety of
Elastomer products, such as automotive applications, cooking, Elastomer
(Original) baking, electronics, medical devices, and implants. (Replicated)
Attributes:
Silicone has hydrophobic properties,
It is very flexible,
Resists aging better than other materials,
Can easily be set into a shape and hold it.
Replication Process:
Spray filler primer Spray undergaurd
onto acrylic sheet. on in multiple layers to
Sand and repeat give rubberized texture
