          Empowering Our Local Community: An Insight into Uplift Our Local Community

          Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc., Epsilon Gamma Omega Chapter (EGO), em-
          bodies the spirit of upliftment as its Sorors diligently work towards up-
          lifting  our local community. Monthly reading initiatives are organized at
          Girls Inc. Additionally, on March 21, 2024, the Advocate for Social Jus-
          tice Committee presented a Women’s History Month activity with the
          theme Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion,
          which was enthusiastically received by the girls. The Uplift Our Local
          Community Committee Sorors engage in various activities, including in-
          school support for the BLAST Reading and Math Program at Sonnie
          Hereford Elementary School, participation in the Shower Up mobile
          shower program, and assistance at the AAMU student pantry. Address-
          ing food insecurity and homelessness remains a priority for the commit-
          tee, with ongoing collection and donation drives for non-perishable food
          and clothing. Future endeavors include outreach at Owen’s House, a
          women’s and children’s homeless shelter, a grant writing initiative, and
                                                       a collaborative effort targeting individuals under 30.The So-
                                                       rors of the Uplift Our Local Community committee eagerly
                                                       embrace their role as representatives of Alpha Kappa Alpha
                                                       Inc., always ready to uplift with a smile. Sorors Karen Turn-
                                                       age and Natalie Steele serve as the primary points of contact
                                                       for the committee.
