Also in Membership, EGO won the Cynthia J Finch Mentoring Award and was recognized as the best of the
best Chapters in Membership! Congratulations EGO!
Upon our return to Huntsville, the final planning of the 75th Celebratory Festivities was being done. EGO
is appreciative of the services Sorors Cheryl Moore Davis, Yolanda Dial and Waikikita Tilley provided – all
that you gave in the planning and execution did not go unnoticed.
On Friday, March 15th, Sorors Robyn Jackson and Angela Wilson with their committee, provided the
community with a sunset soiree – an evening of relaxation, fun, enjoyment, and dancing. It was awesome
and if you missed it Sorors, you missed a real treat!
On March 16th, upon entrance into the Saturn Ball Room your breath was completely taken away! And
EGO’s legends were simply beautiful! Thanks to the entire committee, led by Soror Wilma Ruffin, Blannie
Batts and Sharon Boclair for the late-night hours, the last-minute plans, and the leadership exhibited to make
the event a remarkable endeavor to recognize our legends and their contributions in making EGO sound, leg-
endary and successful. The addition of an Emmy Award Winning Poet for Entertainment at this event was
definitely a first in our community and EGO is grateful for the efforts of Soror Yolanda Dial in making this a
reality. The committee certainly surpassed the mark in honoring Epsilon Gamma Omega’s Diamond Jubilee,
the 75th Chapter anniversary! Wow!
Sorors, thank you for the $150 “ask” to financially celebrate our 75th Anniversary! This coupled with the
donations received at the Legends Ball, EGO has endowed a $25,000 scholarship at AAMU, the first Gradu-
ate D9 Chapter to make this a reality!
Under the leadership of Sorors Yvette Evans, Chris Winston and Lorraine Lacy, EGO’s 75th Commemora-
tive Directory was published! Through the sales of the directory, over $3000 was raised to support the EGO
AAMU scholarship!
EGO, you are elevating our sisterhood to increased numbers in membership. We appreciate the efforts of
Sorors Dawn Batts, Tiffany Eason, Daphne Scott and Jillian Lockhart for their reactivation efforts. Although
we have had an unprecedented number of Ivy Beyond the Walls, our membership numbers continue to grow.
That is because of you and the work you are doing and the sisterliness you are displaying – thank you!
However, it should be noted that the planning and service provided to respect our Sorors during this emo-
tional time could not happen without the dedicated efforts of EGO’s Rituals and Protocol Committees, led
by Soror Cynthia Smith and Soror Stephanie Burton – we are blessed to have sorors who are willing to do all
that AKA requires and the families requests during these unplanned times.
EGO was asked at the January 2024 meeting to galvanize partnerships, connections and collaborations
while orchestrating services throughout our community. And you did Sorors! These relationships are making
monumental impacts specifically in AKA’s signature Childhood Hunger Initiative Power Pack (CHIPP)
program. The partnership with the Alabama Credit Union and First Missionary Baptist Church has made the
difference in the feeding of students at the Dawson Elementary School and the Sonny Hereford Elementary
School; and, the collaborative efforts of EGO and the Ivy Center Foundation have led to $6000 in support of
the CHIPP Program. There is absolutely no Empower our Families Initiative Committee, led by Soror Cyn-
thia Massey, like EGO’s and definitely no CHIPP Leads like Sorors Verlene Texas and LaToya Sims, with
support from the committee who steps up time after time to feed hungry children. If you have not participat-
ed or said thank you to this team, I encourage you to do both!
The connection that EGO has to Huntsville’s Green Team, AAMU and the Better Business Bureau, to
name a few, have led to a record number of tree plantings. The collaborative events established through
EGO’s Advocate for Social Justice and Building our Economic Wealth and the Uplift of Our Local Commu-
nity are just too numerous to mention, but have led to EGO’s ability to continue to SOAR! It should be noted
that Soaring has no bounds and EGO’s Programs Teams under the leadership of Sorors Marian Guidry and
Eugena Goggans are truly unshakable! Thank you EGO!
