MLK DAY OF SERVICE
January 18, 2021
Article and Photo by: Soror Kamara Fields
The Epsilon Gamma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.
continued the tradition of honoring the life, legacy, and sacrifice of Dr. Martin
Luther King Jr. with a virtual day of service. While the way that we execute our
mission to serve may be different than in the past, our desire to serve remains
unchanged. The members of EGO worked with our chosen organizations, The
Downtown Rescue Mission and New Futures Homeless Shelter to create a “wish
list” of items that were needed to help support their mission of taking care of
those in our community who need a helping hand. Additionally, members were
also given the option to make an online monetary donation. With a spirit of
service, the ladies of Epsilon Gamma Omega answered the call. The members
purchased 1426 diapers, 2596 wipes and donated $800 in monetary donations to
the Downtown Rescue Mission. Additionally, the chapter purchased household
appliances, bedding, cameras, mini-laptops, and many other items totaling
$1600 and donated $400 in support of the New Futures Homeless Shelter.
Downtown Rescue Mission and New Futures Homeless Shelter serve the
homeless in our community. Epsilon Gamma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa
Alpha Sorority supports the missions and visions of both organizations.
Rendering selfless service with a spirit of humility and compassion the women
of Epsilon Gamma Omega executed a heartfelt day of service that made a
lasting impact on the community at large.
