Love, Unity, Strength, and Empowerment for our students in celebration of
Black History Month. Our 2021 #CAP Session was a time to give pertinent information to
empower, uplift and prepare our students with Admissions and Financial Aid processes. The
objectives for our February Session were to: Recognize the historical impact of HBCUs, Identify
HBCUs in Alabama and surrounding states and to Identify activities of Target 1 HBCU Week.
The #CAP Team previewed an HBCU video highlighting the admissions and financial aid
process and showcased several HBCUs. Soror Yvonne Sanderson and Soror Brenton Calhoun
wrapped up our session with a PowerPoint presentation about Historically Black Colleges and
Universities. Soror Yvonne and Soror Brenton also did a Review of the College Checklist asking
the questions to our students: “Have you registered for the SAT or ACT?, Have you researched
college freshman scholarship requirements?, Have you determined whether you will be a face-
to-face or virtual student in the fall?, and Have you applied for scholarships?” There were
twenty participants at our Virtual #CAP February Session to include ten students and ten
Sorors assisting! #CAP students are Zooming right along!
