Every year over 200+ survivors of domestic violence rely on HOPE Place for shelter, safe-
ty planning, hygiene products, counseling, and emergency planning. On January 17th, 2023, in honor of
the MLK Day of Service, Epsilon Gamma Omega and Gamma Mu Chapters of Alpha
Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., provided much-needed African American hair care products
for HOPE Place residence at the Crisis Center of North Alabama (CSNA). CSNA operates
two emergency shelters in Madison and Morgan County, which provide counseling, legal
education, and referrals to other community agencies and offers a wide range of emergency
services to the North Alabama community.
Director Janet S. Gabal provided a tour of the CSNA facility for Basileus Tonya Wood, 2nd Anti-
Basileus, Eugena Goggans, Undergraduate Advisor, Sharon Gresham, former CSNA Board Member Alice
Sams, Uplift Our Local Community Chairman, Karen Turnage and two of our undergraduate sorors from
Alabama A & M University. Ms. Gabal explained that in addition to their domestic violence shelter, CSNA
is comprised of three programs:
•A Domestic Violence Program
•Crisis Counseling Program
•Forensic Nursing Examiners Program
Detailed information was given about their suicide prevention program, educational counseling ser-
vices, 24/7 HELPLINE, 2-1-1 referral-based informational resource line, and the impact CSNA has made
on the North Alabama Community.
Donations and volunteer hours play an enormous role in the success of CSNA. Their services are
free to the 24 hours a day – 7 days a week or year round. For more information, visit their website at
www.csna.org.
