THE EGO Ivy Informer
On Saturday, November 14th, fifteen of our
Perfectly Poised AKA Prospective
Debutantes, members of the Debutante
Community Service Committee and all of
the Debutante Chairmen made mats which
will benefit some of Huntsville’s area
homeless and civilians in several African
countries. It takes 500 - 700 recycled grocery
bags to make one mat. This project ties in
with three of our Target’s Program activities
– Acts of Green, Seasonal Wraps and our
Outreach Efforts for Africa. This project was a partnership with First Missionary Baptist Church and
the Huntsville Assistance Program. The Prospective Debutantes also made "no sew" blankets for
Project Linus, a program which provides blankets to hospitalized children and their siblings and
children of veterans.
We received positive feedback from the girls, their parents and sponsors. The girls had a wonderful
time learning a new skill and this gave them an opportunity to give back to our community and bond.
We would like to thank Sorors Shirley Clemons and Josephine Scruggs for providing the committee
with the bags and instructions on how to make the mats. We are also very appreciative to
Commissioner Bob Harrison for allowing us the use of the District 6 office.
