Chapter 6

                                               From Reality to Truth

"I am the way, the truth, and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through Me."
                                                         John 14:6

If the "journey" of a disciple has a signpost, it must be this scripture! How much
clearer can the Holy Spirit make it! If we have a desire to be like God (Leviticus
11:45b), to imitate Him in our ministry, we MUST come to KNOW Jesus. He does
not merely show the way; He is the way. Salvation is in a Person. Accept that
Person as your own, and you have salvation. Christianity is Christ. The Lord Jesus is
not just one of many ways. He is the only Way. The way to God is not by the Ten
Commandments, the Golden Rule, ordinances, church membership—it is through
               Christ and Christ alone.

Then the Lord is the truth. He is not just One who teaches the truth; He is the
truth. He is the embodiment of Truth. Those who have Christ have the Truth. It
               is not found anywhere else.

Christ Jesus is the life. He is the source of life, both spiritual and eternal. Those
who receive Him have eternal life because He is the Life.

We are not born however knowing the way, the truth and the life. We are born to a
sinful heritage, a heritage that flows from Adam's disobedience. It is a heritage we
ourselves cannot change! It requires a new birth, a birth from above (John 3:3). Paul's
letter to the church in Rome, the 7th chapter, verses 14-25 describe our Adamic
               nature well...
                                                                                             15
                       14
" For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin. For what I
am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I
                                    16
hate, that I do. If, then, I do what I will not to do, I agree with the law that it is good. 17
                                                                                 18
But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. For I know that in me
(that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to
                                                        19
perform what is good I do not find. For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the
                                                        20
evil I will not to do, that I practice. Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I
                                                        2I
who do it, but sin that dwells in me. I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the
                                               22
one who wills to do good. For…
