                Drug Class: Hypertonic Solutions


            A. Main action:



                 Glucose elevating agent

            B. Indications:



             1.  Hypoglycemia

             2.  Insulin shock

             3.  Alcoholic shock

             4.  Dehydration

             5.  NPO patient related to specific disease

             6.  Hyperkalemia

             7.  sulfonylurea overdose

             8.  induced hypoglycemia in pediatric

            C. Contraindication:



                Hypersensitivity


           B) Hypertonic saline:



             •  Refers to any saline solution with a concentration of sodium chloride (NaCl) higher

                than physiologic (0.9%). Commonly used preparations include 2%, 3%, 5%, 7%, and

                23% NaCl.
