instructional strategies are used by teachers that transform student learning. Students need access to rich multimedia
content to develop digital literacy. (DL)
Simply explained, digital literacy is the ability to read and write using technology. TeachHub (2019)

Within my ecosystem, teachers use a very traditional teaching practice of providing worksheets and paper-based
activities despite using an online instruction platform. Students are emailed worksheets and textbooks form the basis
of student activities.
To develop good digital content, teachers need to have high levels of DL. Although students within my ecosystem are
constantly engaged and learning from multimedia tools such as Facebook, Twitter, wikis, blogs, video games, and
YouTube, teachers do not use this opportunity to build content and teaching strategies that encourage higher-order
thinking and deep learning, using these resources. This is due to a lack of training and professional development.
According (Chien, 2012), the use of all forms of media has impacted our daily lives and educators need to include
digital media curriculum as part of a learning model to support the impact of technology and facilitate students’ lifelong
learning and nurture creative thinking. This is further supported by the SAMR model, designed by Dr. R Puentedura,
which supports and enables teachers to design, develop, and infuse digital learning experiences, using technology.
The implementation of the SAMR framework within my ecosystem will guide the much-needed transition to a more
MLE. A shift from traditional teaching to one that provides resources such as digital lesson plans, a file-sharing
service, digitalizing classroom content eg; vocabulary lists, and learning material could enhance 21st-century skills.
Teacher resources such as instructional videos, gamification such as Kahoot, digital portfolios, and student multimedia
presentations will create richer learning experiences that promote media creation, communication, collaboration, and,
real-time feedback and peer learning.

Currently, my ecosystem lacks a platform for sharing educational resources for both teachers and students. The
creation of a learning repository can motivate the development of digital content and allow teachers to share
resources, and provide students, access to information at any- time and anywhere, encouraging independent learning,
student accountability, and participation in creating 21st-century learning.
