ENGAGING INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES:
BLENDED LEARNING (BL) USING FLIPPED CLASSROOM (FC)
According to (Ozdamli & Asiksoy, 2016), FC is a blended approach that is active and student-centered, providing
increased interaction, transitioning of teacher and student roles, and individualized learning. They also highlight the
advantages of teamwork, cooperative learning, peer feedback, and the opportunity for the teacher to track student
progress and data analytics. This is supported by (Chung & Lee, 2018) who stated increased levels of student
motivation, preparation, and commitment to learning.

Implementing a flipped classroom in my ecosystem will have multiple benefits. A blended learning approach when
applied wisely will create a community of learning amongst students and allows the teacher to provide a mentoring
and coaching role in the learning process. It also allows the teacher to be a less intimidating figure who has most of
the answers, but not necessarily all of them. Engaging students to believe that they have control over their success is
an indicator of a growth mindset. (Clark, Kaw, Lou, Scott, & Besterfield-Sacre, 2018)
