11. Separate Charges – Let Us Know ASAP
Certain events or changes may require additional legal work that falls outside the scope of your
original Medicaid planning engagement. These matters may involve separate charges.
Situations Requiring Immediate Notification
Contact our office immediately if any of the following occur:
4
Receipt of a denial notice or notice of termination of benefits;
Receipt of any notice you do not understand;
Request for a fair hearing or administrative appeal;
Death of the Medicaid recipient or their spouse:
Receipt of an inheritance, lawsuit settlement, insurance claim, or other unexpected funds;
Sale of any property (including the home);
Change in care needs or care setting;
Contact from the Medicaid Estate Recovery Program; and/or
Any significant change in financial situation.
Why Early Notification Matters
Many Medicaid-related issues have strict deadlines. For example, appeals must often be filed
within 10 days to preserve benefits pending the appeal. Notifying us early gives us the best
opportunity to protect your benefits and address issues before they become problems.
When in doubt, call our office. It is always better to ask questions than to make assumptions
that could jeopardize your benefits.
