Family First Firm • Florida Medicaid Post-Approval Guide
1. Enrollment Advisement and Guidance
Now that your Medicaid application has been approved, you will need to enroll in a managed
care plan to receive your benefits. Florida delivers long-term care Medicaid services through
the Statewide Medicaid Managed Care (SMMC) program. Understanding this system is
essential to getting the care you need.
Understanding the SMMC Program
The SMMC program has multiple components. For long-term care recipients, you will be
enrolled in the Long-Term Care (LTC) program. Most Medicaid recipients also receive their
general medical care through the Managed Medical Assistance (MMA) program. There is also a
separate Dental Program.
Choosing Your Plan
After approval, you will receive a welcome packet with information about choosing a health
plan. Florida is divided into regions, and within your region, you will have several managed care
plans to choose from. Each plan contracts with different providers, so it is important to choose
a plan that includes the providers you want to use, especially if you are already receiving care
at a specific facility.
