Abstract:
Arabica green coffee contains phenolic compounds and flavonoids that
function as antioxidants. This content is able to inhibit free radicals and
slow down skin aging. Coffee is also popular in the cosmetics world as a
natural scrub ingredient that helps moisturize, brighten the skin, and boost
confidence. This study aims to formulate and evaluate the preparation of
body scrub cream from Arabica green coffee (Coffea arabica L) as a
natural antioxidant. Green coffee contains phenolic compounds and
flavonoids that are antioxidants, so it has the potential to be used in skin
care products. This research was conducted experimentally at the MTsN
6 Science Laboratory in East Jakarta in May-June 2025 with three
formulations of coffee extract concentration (10%, 15%, 20%). Evaluation
of preparations was carried out through organoleptic, pH, homogeneity,
spreadability, and hedonic tests. The results showed that the F1 and F2
formulas (10% and 15%) had good physical stability, pH within the normal
range of the skin (4.5–5.6), and a high level of preference from the
respondents. While F3 exhibits a rough texture and a higher pH which can
cause irritation. The homogeneity and dispersibility of all formulas are
good and favor convenience of use. The conclusions of this study show
that Arabica green coffee scrub cream, especially at a concentration of
10–15%, has the potential to be a skin care product with a safe and
preferred antioxidant effect.
