u3a Import Export
u3a Import Export is one of the newest plugins to be added to u3a SiteWorks
before first release and it is designed to help Web Managers to populate their
Contacts, Venues, Groups, and Events pages. Venues is a new feature with
SiteWorks that we never had with Site Builder but Contacts, Groups, and Events
are found on Site Builder sites.

Brand new u3as don’t have a website at all so have nothing to migrate from but
they probably do have some of this data already in one form or another. Initially
the import capability was to help these sites to prepare their data in advance
and enable a fast start when they got going on a server-hosted site.
It became apparent that, for various reasons, some of our u3a sites wanted to
scrap their existing website and start over so this facility would be useful to
them as well as they could capture existing Contacts, Groups, and Events if they
wanted to and import into a Starter site.

This feature is available for migrating sites as well where there is a need to import
additional data over and above what is migrating.

Pre-migration site preparation is a task best performed (or at least checked) not
too long before migration to ensure that the most up-to-date data is being used
but there is nothing to stop you from collecting data any time you want to.
Import data
The first task is to complete the worksheets. To get a copy of these click on u3a
Import Export on the Dashboard and you will get this page. Click on Download
spreadsheet import template to get your file. There are five worksheet tabs
including one that provides completion instructions.

Add your data according to the instructions and save every worksheet
separately as a .csv file.
