Appendix A – Ideas and Inspiration
They do say that a picture paints a thousand words so what better way to finish
this workbook than to direct you to some real u3a SiteWorks and WordPress
sites so that you can see how others have structured their sites, what sort of
things they have included, and especially how they have used some of the new
features and functions to good effect.
Pioneer sites
Below is an alphabetical list of the Pioneer u3a SiteWorks sites and you can find
them on this map - https://siteworks.u3a.org.uk/the-team/our-pioneers/ . They
are the sites of our Pioneers who, over the last few months, have been guinea
pigs for u3a SiteWorks. They have tested product, processes, and procedures to
help all those Web Managers who will be following. As each site has gone live the
Web Manager has been asked which part of the new site he/she likes the best so
that you can look to see if that particular idea or feature could work for your site
too.

Susan’s favourite blocks include Details, Columns, Image &
text, and the Cover block. Her favourite things about her
site are the Admin page: loved that so much info takes up
so little space & yet things are still easy to find. She also
likes the Contact page: because it's simple but it works
though it did take many hours to produce.

& District Pam likes the flexibility of layouts with the ability to
display a lot of information in a structured way within the
website. Look out for bulleted lists, use of tables for class
or activity dates, and links to other pages. Group pages
are much more interesting now with detailed Events and
Posts (blogs) where applicable with lots of photos
throughout and links to venues for outings. The Group
Leaders who have seen it so far are amazed how easy
their pages look to maintain.
