One day after her visit to Mrs Snow, Pollyanna met a young boy who looked her age. She
greeted him and started talking to him. She found out that his name was Jimmy Bean and he was
searching for a home because he had to leave the orphanage where lived as it had been full. Polly-
anna thought she could help the boy since she had heard her aunt talking about how she could not
attend the Ladies’ Aider meeting that day. So, she thought that it was her chance. Sadly, they re-
fused her request and she tried her own home as well but Aunt Polly said no.
While doing all the errands, Pollyanna would always see this one man walking by. She used
to greet him and once she also managed to introduce herself but he hadn't responded. But, soon, he
introduced himself. His name was John Pendleton.
As she was walking towards the Pendleton area, she saw a dog and it was trying to take her
somewhere. She followed the dog and found Mr Pendleton lying there injured. He told Pollyanna
to go to his house, find the number book, and call Dr Chilton. After she did so, Dr Chilton and
some nurses came to help Mr Pendleton. They later found out Mr Pendleton’s foot was broken.
Then, Pollyanna started to visit her friend quite often to see him after his accident. Dr Chilton saw
how Pollyanna would make Mr Pendleton’s mood better so he asked her to visit him almost every
day. She did so and came to visit him almost every day.
One day, Mr Pendleton asked if Pollyanna would live with him. Pollyanna said that she
would ask her aunt about it. Later that day, Pollyanna asked Nancy if Aunt Polly wanted her there
or not and Nancy said that she had done many things for her and she had also started to like having
her there. She told this to Mr Pendleton. She also asked him if he was Miss Polly’s ex-lover since he
had once said, “a home is not a home without a woman's hand in the heart and a child’s presence”.
Mr Pendleton denied the accusations and said he actually liked her mother before and her being
there reminded him of her, that’s why he had requested her to live with him. Pollyanna was shocked
but she didn't agree on living with him. Instead, she wanted her friend Jimmy Bean to live with him
since they were both quite lonely.
After their discussion, Mr Pendleton agreed to see her friend Jimmy Bean. Pollyanna had
also started school then so she got busy. One day, she was coming home from school, she started
running to cross the road and didn’t see the motorbike speeding towards her. To find out what hap-
pens to Pollyanna, please read the book.
Favourite Part: This book is one of my favorites. I mostly liked the part when Pollyanna and
Nancy talked on the porch and Nancy said how she would love to have any other name than Nancy,
complaining that her siblings had fancier names than her and to this, Pollyanna had replied that at
least she didn’t have the name ‘Hephzibah’ since it was Mrs White’s (a person who would come to
the Ladies’ Aid sometimes) name. This is my favourite part as I think it was sweet for Pollyanna to
say that.
My thoughts on this book: I think this book is a really good book for all ages and the plot is
truly amazing. Out of 10, I would give it a 9 since I feel like the side characters could have more de-
tails to them. But, this book is really good. Overall, I like this book a lot but I didn’t like the fact that
the author didn’t have a clear backstory of Aunt Polly’s family and why she wanted to avoid them.
