Creatinine vs. Urea:
Creatinine is more preferred than urea because:
o It is not reabsorbed.
o Creatinine depends mainly on muscle mass-which is
constant rather than protein catabolism. BUN is far more
likely to be affected by dietary and physiologic conditions
not related to renal function.
➢ Practical procedures for determination of uric acid
concentration in blood:
• Blood sample is obtained from the patient.
• The blood sample is centrifuged, and serum is
drawn.
