Meet Mike Mitchell

A native Athenian who enjoys spending time with his family and on his bicycle, cheers for the
UGA Bulldogs, and has arrest powers, Mike Mitchell the Director of Governmental Affairs and
Communications opens up to the DDS Scoop!

1 – Where did you work prior to coming to DDS? What brought you to DDS?

Before joining DDS, I worked at the University of Georgia for 12 years. About half of that time
was as a police officer with the University of Georgia Police Department, and the other half
was as an investigator with the University of Georgia Law School Legal Aid Clinic.

When I applied with DDS in 2005, it was actually still DMVS. I didn’t know much about the
agency, but I was completing my graduate degree and was looking for a chance to move into
something that would give me future opportunities to advance. The position I applied for was
as a Special Assistant which was formerly used as a judicial liaison. Honestly, I didn’t think I
had much of a chance, being an outsider, but someone saw something promising and the rest
is history.
