Dear Maisha,
I hope this letter finds you well. I’m still
very troubled. I can’t even remember
today’s date.
At only thirteen, I decided I would not
marry. I was too young. Having children
at that age was not good for my health.
I could also die while giving birth. I was
too young to take care of a family.
Besides, I did not love the man who had
promised to give our family many things.
I could not imagine myself dropping out
of school, just to get married.
My dream was to become a doctor. But
our parents didn’t want to hear any of
that.
