We would travel in twos or threes. At
times, we would cross country borders
using fake documents. The traffickers
arranged for these too. They know
people who matter.
Now and then, we would use illegal trails
to cross borders. In the desert, we would
trek for tens of miles on foot every day.
Sometimes, we would be lucky to take a
ride in an overcrowded bus or truck.
The traffickers did everything to make
sure that we crossed from one country
to another.
After all, this was the reason why we
were paying them so much money.
