Chapter 3: Crossing the desert
One day as we crossed the desert, our
trafficker told us that some people had
died in the desert! They were migrants
like us who failed to pay their fees. So,
they were abandoned in the desert. Our
trafficker said, “You need us to show you
the way. You cannot survive for long in
the desert without food and water.”
The trafficker said these things to scare
us. He wanted us to know, “If we failed
to pay up, this would happen to us too!”
Maisha, the truth is that some people
die in the desert.
